8 Ways To Show Unconditional Love (2 of 5)

2. Make Sure To Take Time For Yourself
When you love yourself, it makes it so much easier for you to love them (and vice versa). With that in mind, it’s important to realize that loving someone unconditionally doesn’t mean saying, “yes” to every single request. Much like you would care for their well-being, recognize that there is nothing selfish about prioritizing your mental and physical health. Obviously, it is important to communicate your limits at the very start of the relationship so that you know where each of you stand. Not only will it prevent hurt feelings, it helps build mutual respect and a sense of safety.

3. Embrace them, warts and all
Unconditional love is recognizing that nobody is perfect, and that it’s okay. They might have some quirks that you find mildly annoying, but they could certainly say the same about you. Accepting your partner for who they are and not trying to change them demonstrates that your love is rooted in respect, not control. You’re sending the message that you didn’t choose some idealized version of who they could be, but who they truly are, flaws and all.
