Designed for practicality, the coffin is lightweight at 30kg but can support up to 200kg, and comes equipped with six handles to facilitate transportation.

The conventional paths most commonly taken involve either a ground burial within a wooden casket or opting for cremation, transforming the deceased into ashes.

This innovation, conceived by Loop Biotech, a Dutch firm, utilizes locally sourced mushroom varieties and recycled hemp fibers to construct the ‘Living Cocoon’ within a mere week.

Inside, it’s furnished with a cushy hemp mat and a pillow made of moss, offering the choice to elevate comfort with a wool or soft cotton bedding.

Weighing in at 30kg, the coffin is designed to support up to 200kg, featuring six built-in handles to facilitate handling.

This unique eco-friendly burial option has already made its way to the UK market, albeit at a premium price of approximately $3,000.
