He Tossed the Garter… and Nearly Set the Reception on Fire! (2 of 2)
Instead of heading toward the waiting bachelors, the garter took a wild detour, flying high and veering off to the left. Gasps and shrieks echoed across the dance floor as it landed—of all places—right on the edge of an ornate candle display. Several tall glass vases holding flickering flames stood just inches from where the garter had dropped.
Time seemed to freeze for a second. Guests instinctively stepped back. The bridesmaids clutched their chests. One woman even shouted, “It’s going to catch!”
But just as the fabric grazed the edge of a candle’s warm glow, Jason—Daniel’s best friend and one of the groomsmen—lunged forward like a reflexive superhero. With one swift grab, he snatched the garter from the candle’s reach, saving not only the decorative display, but possibly the entire evening.
The room burst into laughter and applause, the moment instantly transforming from horror to hilarity. Daniel doubled over in relief, and Ava mouthed a thankful “Oh my God!” as Jason held up the garter like a trophy. Someone joked that it was the most action he’d seen all year. Even the DJ couldn’t help but remix a little “This Girl Is on Fire” for comic effect.
Later, over dessert and dancing, guests replayed the incident over and over, each telling growing a little more dramatic than the last. By the time the night ended, the near-disaster had already become legend—etched forever in wedding lore.
As for Jason? He may not have caught the garter in the traditional way, but he definitely earned the title of MVP that night.
So, if you thought wedding garter tosses were all fun and games, think again. This one came with a spark—literally.
