I’ve always said my cat, Daisy, had a dramatic streak. She’s the kind who drags socks, leaves, and the occasional frog to the porch like they’re trophies. But nothing—and I mean nothing—prepared me for what she carried home that cold October morning.
It was just after dawn. The grass was damp, the sky still gray. I heard scratching on the back door and opened it, expecting the usual proud meow and maybe a feather or two. Instead, Daisy trotted in with something tiny in her mouth—something that yelped. My first thought: She’s caught a squirrel! But when she dropped it gently onto the rug, I froze. It wasn’t a squirrel. It was a puppy.
A puppy.
Daisy looked up at me like she’d just done something heroic. Then, to my absolute shock, she darted back outside and returned minutes later with another one—then another. By the time she was done, I had three shivering little furballs on my living room floor, mewing softly beside my very smug cat.
