The flight attendant with kind eyes and a laugh that seemed to soften the sharp edges of the crowded cabin. She crouched down so she was eye level with Dakota and offered her a tiny plastic cup filled with pretzels. “Hey buddy,” she said in a voice that felt like a lullaby, “wanna help me do a very important job?”
