The Delivery Driver Called the Cops Because She Didn’t Believe My Golden Retriever Was Mine

All I wanted after a rough day was to relax with my Golden Retriever and some delivery food. While waiting outside for the driver, my dog had been playing in my neighbor’s yard through our shared doggy door. When the delivery driver arrived, I called my dog back and put him inside, only to realize I’d left the gate locked. Moments later, she was parked outside, still watching. Ten minutes later, two police cars pulled up — she had reported me for stealing “a white person’s dog.”
All I wanted after a long day was to relax on the couch with delivery food. While I waited outside for the driver, my Golden Retriever was in my neighbor’s yard playing with her dog through our shared doggy door.
When the driver pulled up, I called my dog back inside, waved to her, and told her to leave the food by the mailbox. She asked if the dog was mine, and I happily said yes, even offering for her to say hello. She dropped the food, got back in her car… and stayed parked outside.
Minutes later, two police cars arrived. The officers explained she’d reported a “stolen Golden Retriever” at my address. They were respectful and quickly confirmed the dog was mine — his collar tag had my name and address.
As they were leaving, the driver came back, sobbing and claiming “my kind” only owns pit bulls and rottweilers, so the retriever couldn’t be mine. I let the police handle her.
Dinner was still hot, my dog was safe, and thanks to some delivery credits, I ended the night with a slice of carrot cake. Not the ending she expected.
