Family Tried to Shame Me for Drinking Wine — My Response Left Them Storming Out

Sometimes, a quiet vacation moment can turn into pure drama in seconds.

I was on a solo trip in Tenerife, staying at an all-inclusive hotel so I wouldn’t have to search for restaurants alone. The hotel had “club style” seating — long tables for eight to “encourage community.” Cute idea… until I met them.

I was seated first, sipping a peaceful glass of wine. Then a family of five sat down — two adults, three kids. The mother immediately turned to me and, without so much as a hello, said:

“We do not wish to expose our children to women drinking alcohol.”

I smiled politely and told her she might want to request another table… because I’d be keeping my wine. That’s when the passive-aggressive digs began — little comments about me being “alone” and “setting a bad example.”

When I left to get food, my wine mysteriously disappeared. The waiter approached, apologizing — apparently the family had told him I was underage and had “snuck away from my parents.” He quickly poured me a fresh glass, embarrassed.

That’s when I decided… if they were going to make my drink an issue, I might as well make it a spectacle.

I asked the waiter to bring the entire bottle of wine — and a couple of vodka shots for good measure. As the family returned with their plates, I downed one shot, then the other, right in front of them.

They didn’t say a word.
They just stood up and stormed out.

Sometimes, a little vacation isn’t just about relaxing — it’s about not letting strangers dictate your joy.
