She Walked Into the Street in a White Dress. What She Whispered Stopped Everyone Cold. (2 of 4)
Until, almost too softly to hear, she finally said, “I heard voices.”
That’s when the mood shifted. It wasn’t just concern anymore — it was dread.
Someone dialed 911.
Fifteen minutes later, a young officer pulled up. He looked like he’d seen too many long shifts and not enough sleep. Kneeling beside the girl, he spoke in the kind of calm voice they probably taught him in training.
“What’s your name, sweetheart? Are you lost? Where are your parents?”
The girl didn’t flinch. She just looked at him with serious eyes and said, “The voices told me to leave.”
“What voices?”
“I don’t know. I was behind the door. First, there was a loud bang. Then the voices said, ‘Go away. Or you will die.’”
The officer blinked. He swallowed hard. “Do you know what that word means—‘die’?”
She shook her head, then asked, “Is it bad?”
He didn’t answer that.
