Lucas exhaled, his entire body unclenching.
But the relief didn’t last.
The clinic door flew open. A woman stormed in, face twisted with rage. “Where is he? Where’s my son?!”
A nurse calmly guided her to the back. Moments later, she returned and made a beeline for Lucas.
“You broke my window!” she snapped.
Lucas blinked. “Ma’am… your child was—”
“I was gone for five minutes!” she screamed. “You had NO RIGHT! I’m calling the cops!”
The room fell silent.
The police arrived. Lucas explained everything. So did the nurses and doctors. Officer Grant listened carefully, then turned to the woman—Karen Ellis.
“Ma’am,” he said firmly, “you’re lucky someone stepped in. Leaving a child in a hot car is extremely dangerous. This could’ve ended very differently.”
