8 Tips For Keeping Your Home Smelling Fresh (2 of 5)

Keep the Fridge Clean

Our fridges are the most important appliance in our homes, and yet we’re prone to keeping it messy. In particular, there always seem to be items—especially condiments—that are well past their expiration date. Instead of pitching them, they simply get relegated to the back of the fridge, where they are quickly forgotten. Do an inventory once a month so you can determine what is fresh and what needs to be pitched. Use that time to give your fridge a good scrub-down as well. Don’t use bleach though as it could contaminate your food. Instead, mix one part hot water, one part white vinegar, and a drop of dish soap to make the cleaning solution.

Be Mindful of Your Trash

Waste bins and diaper pails are obvious sources of odor, but if you spend enough time around such things, you might not even realize how bad your house smells due to desensitization. This is why it is so important to take proactive measures. Every Saturday, take a moment to clean your waste bins inside and out (including the lid if it has one). And never let your bin overflow. Once your garbage bag is full, put it in the dumpster or the outdoor trash can used for weekly pickup.
