Why You Should Eat Chia Seeds Everyday (3 of 6)

Choking Hazard Warning

Chia seeds absorb liquid and expand significantly. Although this property makes them a great option when you want to feel full, be careful as this can also present a choking hazard. For this reason, you should never consume a spoonful of dry chia seeds and then chase them with water. Either mix them into other moist foods or, as suggested previously, soak them first.

Might Support Heart Health

There’s good reason to believe chia seeds may contribute to a healthier heart. For example, the fiber in chia has been known to lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and manage blood pressure. Also, the alpha-linolenic acid that it contains might reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death and arrhythmias. The verdict is still out on whether chia seeds can prevent fatal heart conditions, but it is clear the heart-friendly nutrients do a lot of good for your overall health.
